The Sounds of Rosh Hashana Echo Through Our Online Classrooms

What do Level 6 boys hear through their headphones these days? Not just the teacher’s voice, but the stirring cry of the shofar. Each morning of Elul, that call reaches their hearts, reminding them: Rosh Hashana is coming. It’s time to wake up and do teshuva.

Meanwhile in an assembly, in Pre-1 Alef and Pre 1 Beis little hands are busy with glue and markers. “My daughter has a glass baby food jar!” one mommy exclaims with delight as the children decorate honey jars for the new year. Sweet beginnings are in the making.

On another screen, Level 4 and 5 students are giggling as Talya’s digital brown squiggles appear. “Is it a shofar? A round challah? Maybe the machzor?” her classmates shout. Every guess is a new connection to the Yamim Noraim.

Level 3 is buzzing too. “Asher, Asher, Asher!” the class chants as they cheer him on in a game-show moment. The question: Why do we go to a body of water for Tashlich on Rosh Hashana? The answer flows as beautifully as the minhag itself.

And in Rabbi Y’s class, a classic word game turns into a Rosh Hashana adventure. Hangman, but with words like shofar, simanim, and teshuva. The students laugh, guess, and learn all at once.

From the youngest artists to the oldest thinkers, the energy is unmistakable. Across every class, our screens are glowing with the excitement of Rosh Hashana. The cry of the shofar, the taste of honey, the rhythm of tradition all come alive in our virtual classrooms.

As we count down the last days of Elul, one thing is clear: no matter where our students are logging in from, the spirit of Rosh Hashana connects us all.
