Meet Morah Chaya Forma: Inspiring Growth and Connection at JOS High School
Morah Chaya Forma, a dedicated educator at JOS High School, has been a pillar of the institution for seven years. From her early days as a tutor to her current role as a day school teacher for ninth and tenth grades, she has tirelessly worked to create a nurturing and empowering space for her students.
The Joy of Teaching
When asked about the most rewarding part of her job, Morah Chaya said, “It’s connecting with the girls, seeing them grow, and watching them feel comfortable being themselves. I love helping them develop skills, ask questions, and think critically—especially when it comes to Torah and Yiddishkeit.” Her enthusiasm for her students’ growth and development is evident in everything she does.
Beyond the Classroom
Outside of teaching, Morah Chaya enjoys reading and playing the violin, reflecting her love for learning and creativity. She also brings a rich cultural perspective to her classroom. Though born in New York, she grew up in Brazil and now resides in Argentina, yet she identifies as truly American.
A Passion for Meaningful Learning
For Morah Chaya, teaching is about more than just covering the curriculum. Her favorite lessons stem from the questions her students ask—anything from dinosaurs to vegetarianism, always explored through the lens of Torah and Yiddishkeit. “If it’s something the girls are curious about, I love teaching it,” she says, highlighting her adaptability and enthusiasm for making every lesson engaging and meaningful.
The JOS Difference
What sets JOS apart, according to Morah Chaya, is its ability to provide a fresh start for students. She is deeply touched by her students who have overcome challenges in brick-and-mortar schools and found a place to thrive at JOS. Whether struggling with bullying or health-related issues, students at JOS often find the support and acceptance they need to bloom. “I love seeing the girls become comfortable with themselves, feeling safe enough to share, ask questions, and grow into who they are meant to be,” she explains.
Innovative Classroom Projects
Morah Chaya’s creativity shines in her approach to assessments. Instead of traditional tests, her students recently completed a project titled What Speaks to You? Each student chose a topic close to her heart—such as music, tzedakah, tznius, a piece of Hashem, or Chanukah candles—and presented it through a story and PowerPoint. “It was incredible to see the depth and thoughtfulness in their presentations,” Morah Chaya said.
Through her dedication and innovative teaching methods, Morah Chaya Forma continues to inspire her students to grow, learn, and embrace their individuality in a supportive environment. She exemplifies the nurturing spirit and commitment to excellence that define JOS High School.
